Six Creative Commons licenses were officially introduced using Czech legal language on March 16, 2009.

A Czech Creative Commons license working group formed in May 2008. According to an article in itbiz.cz, the team that put the licenses together consisted people from the National library ( Národní knihovna ČR), the Ministry of Culture (Ministerstvo kultury ČR), the Philosophy Faculty of Charles University (Filozofická fakulta UK) and the civic organization Iuridicum Remedium.

In 2006 two paragraphs (5 and 6) were added to Czech copyright law that changed the proceedure by which license permission was granted. The new amendments made it possible for a user to take content from a creator without a written contractual agreement signed by both parties. After this time, the main barriers to CC adoption were language and awareness.
